True to their names, Deepherders are a type of fungoid that looks after herds of fungal creatures in the gloomy Darkreaches. They are devoted caretakers, diligently protecting their charges from harm. They are curious about other beings, especially those foreign to them. This curiosity has a cruel edge, as fungoids have been known to study unfamiliar folk academically after dismembering them.

Deepherders have a nurturing nature, their concern being the welfare of their fungus herds and the protection of their kin. Fungoids are druidical in their thinking, pragmatic, and preoccupied with their herds as well as the delicate balance of life in the Darkreaches. Deepherders are peaceful but are a terrible foe when angered or when their herd is threatened. There are many tales of folk lost in the Darkreaches who find themselves the “guest” of a fungoid, only to have the creature turn on them suddenly. Loyalty and compassion, as a surface worlder would view such things, are foreign concepts to them. Fungoids are coldly dispassionate when turning enemies into mulch to feed their herds.
